This nutella mug cake recipe takes 5 minutes and is so decadent and amazing considering you cook it in the microwave! I accidently forgot the oil (I would have used coconut oil) the first time I made this but it doesn’t need it! I also cut down the sugar in the recipe to from 2 tablespoons to 1 because I thought 2 tablespoons was too sweet. This dessert isn’t exactly guilt free but is better than some other options out there.
I absolutely love these cutting boards and my Crate & Barrel dinnerware (mug used here) is my favorite.
For all you Nutella and chocolate lovers, this is the perfect dessert for 1 or 2 people, and it’s super satisfying for your sweet tooth. It kind of reminds me of a mini lava cake. I love that there’s no butter or oil in here. I’ve read some recipes that call for 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil and 4 tablespoons of sugar per serving! Yikes, that’s totally unnecessary.
Next time I make this I’m going to try a gluten free version by using coconut flour and use honey or maple syrup instead of sugar. I used almond vanilla milk this last time and it worked great, so use whatever milk you like.
Ingredients
- 1 heaping tablespoon nutella
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 egg
- 4 tbsp milk
- 4 tbsp flour
- 1-2 tbsp sugar
- dash of salt
- ½ tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Combine all the dry ingredients in the mug and mix. (I use a fork for mixing these)
- Add the wet ingredients to your mug (egg, milk and nutella) and mix everything together until combined. Microwave for 60 seconds.
- Microwave for 60 seconds. You want it to be gooey and not to dry out so start with 60, then see if it needs more.
- Add 10-15 seconds if you would like it more cooked. This will depend on your microwave and your personal taste. For me, 70 seconds is perfect in my microwave, but keep in mind everyone's microwaves are different.
