Spring is right around the corner and I have a fun little flower DIY for you all today! I’ve been very into creating flower arrangements with horizontal lines lately. I have a step by step DIY centerpiece that is pretty straightforward and one that you can definitely try at home!
First things first are the flower choices. I love using greenery like silver dollar and willow eucalyptus. Hydrangea and large blooming flowers like garden roses or peonies are perfect for arrangements like these because they quickly fill a lot of space and create a nice shape. Stagger in some smaller accent flowers like tulips and/or lisianthus. You can even use a filler like trachelium if you have it (if you don’t, use more hydrangea).
I used floral foam and a small white pot from ikea for this arrangement. Soak the foam in a bucket (let it soak up the water but do not force it down, that will form air pockets) and then cut it to fit your container.
Start with your greenery and focus on creating the shape. For a horizontal look, you’ll want to place stems on either side in close to equal amounts. Try to follow the natural direction of the stem when placing them. Then, add your big blooms followed by any filler flower you may be using. Finish off with your accent flowers to fill in some spaces and add interest.
Here’s a shot of the back of this spring flower arrangement! Don’t forget to just have fun when creating something like this, it doesn’t have to be perfect and more likely than not no one would ever know if it wasn’t anyway!
