Christmas tree shopping isn’t something my family typically does before Thanksgiving. However, when we realized we weren’t going to have much time to go in the coming weeks, we thought best to get this one checked off the list early. Not going to lie, I’m excited about having the tree up early!
Over the years we’ve actually gotten really good at picking our tree. The first time we got one it was definitely a little bigger than it needed to be. Now we make sure to get one that is 7-8 feet tall (for reference, we have 9 foot ceilings) and relatively narrow. We typically have it narrowed down to 2 trees to choose from relatively quickly. I even snagged one of the mini trees this year! These are called “tabletop” trees, but ours is set up in the corner of the dining room.
When it comes to the variety of tree, we always go for the Fraser Firs because they shed the least and last the longest. You’ll also need a stand if you get a fresh tree. We use this one so we never have to worry about our tree being straight, it’s still going strong 6 years later! Also, take the part of this stand that needs attached to the tree with you to the farm, because they will attach it while they prep the tree to take home! Oh, and make sure you water your tree as soon as you can, plus be ready to fill it again the next day because the tree will drink a lot of water when you first get it home.

A little about what my Christmas tree shopping outfit because I love this layered look! This was bay far one of my favorite summer dresses (I wore it to Pittsburgh’s Diner en Blanc). This combination of lace, knit and plaid is just gorgeous. My husband totally thought this was all one connected piece.
If you have a lace dress, throwing an oversized sweater over it completely transforms the look for fall and winter. My dress is Free People and is currently sold out in white (there are only a couple in the mustard color left) but I found some similar ones that are so pretty. My sweater is almost sold out too, but I found another one that works perfectly for layering!
