The more time goes on, the more sacred my home becomes to me. What comes in and what goes out, as well as the overall energy has become an integral part of everyday life. I try to keep the vibes positive and light, airy and clean. Interior decorating is a hobby that I take relatively seriously, and decorating my house has been a great creative outlet and learning experience. In the last few years my own style has really developed and grown, and it’s continuing to do so.
It’s so exciting to share my son’s nursery as the first official part of my home tour on this blog (you got a peek at my office in my first post. From choosing the type of small scale modern furniture, to the closet re-design, a lot of love went into this room. Using mostly gray and white tones with black as an accent made the room chic enough for me, while the animal touches and banners hanging over the crib were fun enough for my son.
5 Tips for a Modern Nursery:
- Resist the urge to buy everything in sight. Keeping your accessory selections carefully curated will make a big difference. I stuck to wooden toys, modern looking animals and certain books to keep on display.
- Clean lines and small scale furniture are the way to go. It also means more floor space to play! Don’t be afraid to mix and match pieces; our dresser is from Ikea and has Anthropologie pulls for a custom look.
- Use stylish or simple baskets and containers to store toys, blankets and anything else you wouldn’t want in plain sight.
- Buy a small rug even if you have carpet. The added print and texture helps pull the space together.
- Go beyond the mobile. Incorporate banners, tissue or fabric poms, tassels and other fun elements to string from the ceiling! I used command strips to secure my banners from one wall to the other. Just make sure they are high enough that little ones can’t grab them!
