If you’re in the mood for a touch of Paris or some Prairie School inspired architecture a là Frank Lloyd Wright, or heck, even if you are just a big fan of The Bachelorette, then there is a gem of a property in the Laurel Highlands that will totally set you to relaxation mode. Since moving to Pittsburgh, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort has easily been a favorite spot for a quick getaway. Plus, with Valentine’s day around the corner it’s a great option for a romantic trip (hint hint, boys!). If you are from Pittsburgh or just visiting the area, this is surely another place to add your must visit list. Today I’m recapping our recent Nemacolin girls getaway weekend. I had the pleasure of taking this trip with my dear friends Ashley from Afternoon-Espresso, Bri from Just a Girl Boss and Kim from Yes Wear That!
You really cannot ask for much more during a girl’s getaway than: 1. getting pampered at an amazing spa and 2. great food and drinks with friends. I had a fantastic facial and I don’t think any of us really wanted to leave the spa’s relaxation room after our services. We gathered up the motivation though because well, dinner sounded like a pretty good idea! We were totally ready to take on some snow activities, but the weekend we went was more reminiscent of an early spring in the middle of January! Believe me, none of us minded. We embraced it by taking some time to explore and enjoy the warmer than usual temps.
I had the chance to stay in both the Falling Rock and the Chateau Lafayette resorts so you can get a peek at both styles of rooms. Plus, I’m sharing my must do’s when visiting the resort!

When we stayed at Falling Rock I was blown away by the attention to service. The views are gorgeous and each room is paired with a personal butler. They will run you a lux bath, bring you different pillows to try out if something isn’t to your liking. And -I think this was our favorite- a milk and cookie turndown!

My must do recommendations when visiting Nemacolin Woodlands Resort:
- You have to check out the spa, it’s a little slice of luxury and relaxation that is top notch. I always laugh at how big and comfy the robes are! And I loved this beautiful orchid arrangement from the entrance to the spa.
- Have Sunday brunch at Lautrec. This is literally my husband and I’s favorite brunch spot. It’s a buffet complete with oysters, crab claws and prime rib. Enough said, right? They feature dishes and desserts that have been unique each time we’ve gone.
- Enjoy high tea in the gorgeous Lafayette Tea Room. The light absolutely pours into this space and you’re surrounded by chandeliers adorned with baccarat crystals.
- Check out Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water. If you’re visiting from out of town, Falling Water is a short distance from the hotel and this home is a must see. Be sure to book your visit in advance as the tours sell out (p.s. kids must be at least 6 years old to go on the tour).
- For Him: Take in a round of golf. There are currently two courses including the acclaimed Mystic Rock. The 3rd course, Shepherd’s Rock, will be opening this July.
- For the Kids: Take a tour of the on property zoo, grab an ice cream cone at PJ’s and even get some pampering at the kid’s spa. Go to the Sundial Lodge for bowling, arcades and skiing if they are old enough. In the summer they’ll love the kid friendly outdoor pool, mini golf and loads of adventurous outdoor activities.
