The War of the Roses, a 3 decade long battle for a crown between 2 families that George RR Martin himself drew inspiration from when writing A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series behind Game of Thrones. Sparing you a history lesson, the white rose vs. red rose ultimately lead to the marriage between the two families, and thus: to pink. This years Riverlife’s Party at the Pier drew inspiration from history as well, creating a welcome 2017 twist with it’s playful “War of the Rosés”. A sea of pink tones filled Pittsburgh’s riverfront, with enough rosé to have one feel like they were in battle come Saturday morning.
I went with this dusty pink dress, with 80’s inspired puff sleeves (hello, Dynasty) and these Tony Bianco heels that bring just the right amount of edge. Riverlife’s Party at the Pier is an annual benefit to help fight it’s own battle in bringing a cleaner, safer and more beautiful riverfront to Pittsburgh.
When you think about it, this whole War of the Roses theme couldn’t be more fitting today, since it just so happens to be the finale of Game of Thrones tonight. And I mean really, if you take it out of context quotes like: “I remember the pretty dress you were wearing and the fancy way you did your hair” have even Arya Stark getting on board.
