From girls hair, to sofas, to kitchen appliances, even its own dedicated hashtags on social media, “millennial pink” has been everywhere the last few years. If you take one look at this website it’s obvious where I stand on the pink front. But something happened a few months ago that made me feel like I was drowning in it. It was everywhere and the color that I couldn’t get enough became so oversaturated I stopped seeing it. So when I saw this dress below and thought- hmmm. It’s just a bit of soft pink alongside a happy yellow, both complemented by the right shade of gray. It’s quite literally the color question of this blog post laid out in a dress. Is buttery yellow the new millennial pink?
I read an article earlier in the year how millennial pink isn’t going anywhere, “it’s here to stay”… and at the time I couldn’t have agreed more. There is something just so captivating about the right shade of rosy pink. The color that can express the most feminine moodiness to utter romance. So when did it happen? When did yellow come into the picture? I thought I hated yellow.
For me it was sometime in the spring, it started popping up in my instagram photos, my filters were getting a little warmer, I bought yellow flowers for my garden and yellow was in my outfits… And I just wasn’t loving [gasp] pink. Is it possible to have an overconsumption of a color? I think I just needed a break, not a break up. Can you break up with a color? Whatever it was, this pink lover was passing on the pink.
I will never say that I’m done with it (I mean, come on). From the bubble gum pink unicorn wallpaper I had when I was a kid, to the grown-up rosy quartz that makes it’s way into my closet and home, it’s the one color that will always unequivocally be my favorite. But just like that time I insisted to my parents that the pink unicorn wallpaper had to come out of my room, our tastes are ever changing (and sometimes cyclical). So while I’m not making any official declarations that the end of millennial pink is here (pink walls across the world, you can take a breath) I do think there will be some strong competition from its sunny counterpart.
